Moroccan tennis player Reda Bennani, aged 17, expressed his frustrations and voiced his disappointment after being excluded from the Hassan II Tennis Trophy competition in a video shared on social media platforms on 7th April.
Bennani, known for his remarkable achievements and having secured numerous national and international titles, was ranked 15th globally in the junior category during March 2024 (19th in April).
In the video, Bennani addressed concerns over what he perceived as attempts to undermine his reputation and questioned the lack of support from the Technical Staff of the Royal Moroccan Tennis Federation, despite his residency in Morocco and training under Moroccan coaches. He emphasized receiving backing from the International Tennis Federation and sponsors, underscoring his aspiration to represent Morocco in prestigious international tournaments.
According to Moroccan media outlet Hespress, Khaled Afif, the technical director of the Royal Moroccan Tennis Federation, has chosen to refrain from commenting on Moroccan champion Reda Bennani’s recent remarks.
Reda, attributed his recent decline in performance and subsequent drop in world rankings to the technical management of the Federation, stating that it has had a detrimental effect on his mental state. Despite his frustrations, Bennani remains determined to overcome these challenges and continue pursuing his passion for tennis. He emphasized his commitment to regaining his form and representing Morocco with pride on the international stage.
