Morocco Dominates Referee Appointments for CAN 2023

CAF Refrees for CAN 2023

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the list of referees for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2023), with Morocco emerging as a dominant force in representation. A total of seven Moroccan referees have secured their positions for the prestigious tournament set to take place in Côte d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

Among the 68 referees chosen for CAN 2023, Morocco and Egypt lead with seven referees each. Notably, Algeria has contributed five referees, while Tunisia, Libya, and Mauritania each have two representatives among the selected referees. This strengthens the Arab representation in this prestigious football event.

The list of central referees comprises three names, notably Jalal Jayed and Samir Guezzaz. However, the surprise addition announced by CAF is Bouchra Kerboubi, who stands out as the sole female central referee appointed for the tournament.

Morocco’s representation extends beyond the central referees, with Mostapha Akerkad and Lahcen Azguaou appointed as assistant referees. Additionally, Redouane Jayed and Zakaria Brinzi will contribute as VAR refrees.
