CAF, FIFA, and Morocco Reach Agreement on AFCON 2025 Dates

Egyptian sports journalist Mohammed Said took to social media this morning to announce that CAF, FIFA, and Morocco have reached a consensus regarding the scheduling of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2025. According to Said’s post, the tournament is set to take place between July 23rd and August 21st, following the FIFA Club World Cup.

A committee official, speaking anonymously to AFP on Monday, confirmed the agreement between CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to hold AFCON during the summer specifically in July and August 2025.

Earlier in February, Patrice Motsepele, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), had refrained from specifying a precise date for the next edition of AFCON. Originally slated for January and February 2025 in Morocco, the tournament had been postponed indefinitely. However, clarity has now emerged regarding the scheduling, with confirmation that AFCON will coincide with FIFA’s inaugural expanded Club World Cup featuring 32 teams, scheduled from June 15th to July 13th in the United States.
