Morocco’s Junior swimming team concluded their participation in the Second Arab Championship for Aquatic Sports, held from January 10 to 15 in Doha, Qatar, securing a total of 20 medals, including 5 gold, 7 silver, and 8 bronze.
On the final day of the competition, the Moroccan team earned 3 medals in the open water swimming events held at the old port of Doha, covering the 5-kilometer individual race and the 6-kilometer mixed relay.
In the women’s category, swimmer Malak Maqdar claimed gold for the 16-17 age group, while swimmer Ilias Elfallaki won bronze in the men’s competition for the same race with a time of 1:04:28.
The championship concluded with a 6-kilometer mixed open water swimming race, where the Moroccan national team secured the second position, earning a silver medal. The team consisted of Malak Maqdar, Nada Ouerktaoui, Mohamed Malaki, and Ilias Elfallaki.
This second Arab Championship for Youth Aquatic Games, covering swimming, water polo, and open water swimming, served as a test event for the readiness of facilities and teams for the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships, scheduled for February 2-18, marking the first time the event will take place in the Middle East.
The competition featured over 400 swimmers from 17 Arab countries, witnessing intense rivalry among Morocco, Lebanon, Tunisia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and others.
Morocco’s swimming team participants included Nassim El Kassem, Ilias Elfallaki, Yassine Sebbata, Mohammed Malaki, Damia Minhaj, Nada Rqtawi, Romaissa Mouissa, Yahya Sobhi, Malak Maqdar, and Mohamed Malaki.
